Mustard - Broadleaf seeds

Brassica juncea

Broadleaf mustard produces good yields of flavorful green mustard leaves, which are excellent in sandwiches, salads or cooked. Broadleaf mustard is a southern favorite variety for freezing and canning. Mustard is high in vitamin A, B and C. Mustard has a stronger taste than Spinach and Swiss Chard. It is a cool weather crop and is grown in the south in the fall and spring. You can cut leaves as you need them if you want the plant to produce more leaves, or you can cut the entire plant at ground level.

Mustard Greens seeds are usually planted directly in the garden. For spring planting, plant seeds 30 days before the last frost, and 70 days before the first autumn frost for a fall crop. It does best in fertile soil in a well drained location in the garden. Keep soil consistently moist. Water well during dry and hot spells. The seed should be planted about 1/4 to 1/2 deep most guides say, but I remember my uncle sowing the seed on top of a well worked bed. The seeds should sprout in 5 to 8 days. Mustard grows best in partial shade to full sun. The plants can grow 18 to 24 inches tall and mature in 35 to 65 days.

This packet contains approximately 100 seeds.
