Chicken Gizzard plant (Iresine herbstii)

Iresine herbstii is a tender shrub/perennial commonly known as Chicken Gizzard, Beefsteak plant or Bloodleaf.  The Iresines are colorful foliage plants that have wine red leaves and stems.

Chicken Gizzard is an easy to grow house plant that requires bright, indirect light or sun. Keep evenly moist, not wet or dry. They are sun lovers and will fade and get straggly if they do not get enough light.

Pinch out the growing tips occasionally to promote bushiness.

Chicken Gizzard  grows about 2 ft high and is an old favorite still much in demand.

Chicken Gizzards will be damaged if the temperatures drop below 30 degrees.
