Crassula ovata is a succulent plant that sometimes has small pink or white flowers and is common as a houseplant worldwide. It is commonly known as jade plant or friendship tree. This variety has interesting tubular leaves that have a reddish tint and is called Finger Jade. The species has a jade green color to the leaves, and some species can also develop a red tinge on the edges of leaves when exposed to high levels of sunlight. The jade plant require normal watering when the soil is dry in the summer, and very little watering in the winter. Letting the soil dry between waterings is essential for a healthy jade. Jades look very much like miniature trees and often have an appealing bonsai quality.
Jade plants do best with daytime temperatures between 65 and 75 ° F, and nighttime temperatures between 50 and 55 ° F. A cactus mix with some added organic matter will do. Fertilize jade plants once every three to four months. Jade plants are tough, easy-to-grow succulents. They grow well in containers and like the warm, dry conditions found in most homes.
This plant is in a 2 1/2 inch pot.
